Day 28 - My Very Own Dripper!

Hi Everyone. It’s me Tommy!

I'm so exited to talk to you today. So much has happened since my last blog post.

Remember when I said I was getting a new bed and a surprise present?

See the picture below.

It's my new bed!

My dad Scott says it's called a grow bag. Me and my brothers and sisters have so much room to grow and it's so comfortable.

And remember when I said I was getting a surprise present?

I got a dripper! It's my very own dripper!

I'm so excited. My dad just told me I'll be drinking 8 tablespoons a day of vitamins and minerals specially formulated for young tomatoes like me. Now I know why each drop tastes so good. It's made just for me!

Watch the video below. My dad wants to show you just how much I can drink. He's so proud of me.

I've got a special surprise for you. Take a look at the picture below my mom just showed me.

It's my house!

My brothers and sisters and I are so happy growing up in such a beautiful house.

And that's my dad in the picture. He spends hours and hours each day taking care of us. We're all so lucky to be growing up here at Beylik Farms.

OK. I better go. I've got to go potty.

I'll See you all next week...

Tommy.

Day 35 - I'm 10 Inches Tall!

Hi everyone. It's me Tommy!

Guess what I found out today.

I'm only 7 weeks old and I'm already 10 inches tall!

It all started out earlier today when my dad Scott and I were playing.

See the picture below?

My dad was tickling my roots and making me laugh so hard. My roots and the bottoms of my leaves are so ticklish!

We have so much fun here at Beylik Family Farms.

After I caught my breath, I asked my dad if he thought I could ever play professional baseball for my favorite team the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He said if I want to play for the Dodgers, I need to start playing t-ball right away! I'll also have to grow big and strong!

I asked my dad if 10 inches was tall for my age and he said Yes.

He said I'm growing so tall because of something he puts in my bed!

It's called coarse Coco Coir fiber that comes from the husks of coconuts.

Take a look at the picture below.

He said coarse Coco Coir fiber is different than the fine Coco Coir fiber that was in my seedling tray.

Air pockets in coarse Coco Coir fiber allow my roots to get oxygen, stay dry, and provides a stable material to grow in.

My dad also said I don't get any vitamins or minerals from Coco Coir fiber. He said everything I need to grow comes from my dripper's mix of specially formulated vitamins and minerals.

My dad is so smart! His friends call him the Albert Einstein of tomato farming.

Well everyone, I've got to go. My mom is calling me. It's either time for dinner or the Dodger game is on.

I'll see you all next week!

Tommy.

Day 42 - I've Got My Very Own String!

Hi everyone. It's me Tommy!

It's been an exciting day for my brothers and sisters and I here at Beylik Family Farms.

It all started with my afternoon nap. I had the strangest dream. I kept falling down, and falling down, and falling down. I just couldn't stand up. Then, out of nowhere, a giant with long white arms gently helped me stand up!

I suddenly woke up and realized I wasn't a dream at all!

Well, except for the giant part.

What happened was my dad and his friends surprised us with our very own strings and clippers!

Look at the picture below. My dad took a picture while we were napping.

My dad said without stings and clippers, eventually I would get so big and tall that I would fall over. Having the support structure of a sting and clippers allows me to grow even bigger and stronger!

See the picture below? That's one of my new clippers.

My new clippers are so comfortable.

Oh! I almost forgot. My mom and dad both said to say hello. They are so happy thousands of people are reading my blog and learning about my life story.

OK.

I saved the biggest surprise for last. Look at the picture below!

I'm 20 inches tall now! I grew 10 inches in just one week!

It's amazing what love and care from great parents can do.

And speaking of love and care. My mom loves me so much she helped me make a video for you of everything that happened today. You've got to watch it.

Thank you for watching the video and reading my blog. I've got to go now. My mom said I'm only allowed an hour a day on the computer. Mom always knows what's best for me.

I'll see you all next week!

Tommy.

Day 49 - I've Got Flowers!

Hi everyone. It's me Tommy!

The most amazing thing happened this week.

The other day, my arm was really really itchy and I couldn't figure out why. I asked my dad Scott if he knew why. He smiled and said "Yes. I do know. You'll find out why in the morning."

I could barely sleep wondering what was going to happen. In the morning when I woke up, I had something growing out of my arm! My dad said they're called flowers.

Take a look at the picture below.

Aren't they cute!

My dad said the yellow part of my flowers are called pedals. Deep inside my pedals are something called carpels. My dad said next week my carpels are going to start to itch and the biggest surprise of my life will happen!

I'm so excited! I can't wait!

My mom Laura and dad Scott make life so much fun here at Beylik Family Farms. Full of love and exciting surprises! I'm so happy here.

Take a look at the picture below my mom took of me.

My mom is so proud of how much I'm growing she asked my dad to measure how long my arms are getting. My arms are 17 inches long! Can you believe it!

And speaking of growing...

Last week I thought growing 10 inches was fast. Well guess how many inches I grew this week?

I grew 16 inches! I'm 36 inches tall now. That's 3 feet tall!

Below is a close-up picture. I told my dad if we don't take a close up picture, people won't believe how fast I'm growing.

Thank you all for reading this week's blog post. I've got to go now and talk to my mom about getting a dog. She hasn't said yes yet; but I think if I keep asking and asking, over and over again, she will eventually say yes. Wish me luck!

OK, I'll see you all next week!

Tommy.

Day 56 - Tommy Discovers His Purpose

Hi everyone. It's me Tommy!

I've had an amazing week. Let me tell you what happened!

Remember last week when my arm was itchy and I got my first flower? Well this entire week I was feeling itchy!

One morning when I woke up, there was a tiny round green bump coming out of one of my flowers! I yelled out to my mom Laura and my dad Scott. They both ran over to me and said, "Congratulations Tommy! You just got your first tomato!"

I learned that day, as a tomato plant, my purpose in life is to grow tomatoes!

Take a look at the picture below.

tomatoes-1.jpg

See my tomatoes! I'm so happy producing tomatoes is my purpose.

My dad said because of the way I'm raised here at Beylik Family Farms, I'm able to grow some of the best tomatoes in the world!

I'm so lucky to have parents that feed me nutritious food, make sure I get plenty of sunshine, and sing me to sleep every night so I get a good night's rest.

My dad told me some people call tomatoes vegetables and other people call them fruit.

He said if your a scientist, you call tomatoes fruit because fruits are developed from an ovary in the base of a flower and they contain the seeds of the plant. That's technically what makes tomatoes a fruit.

My dad said people who like to cook with tomatoes refer to them as vegetables because they're used in savory rather than sweet recipes. The term vegetable is generally used to describe edible parts of plants such as cabbage leaves or celery stalks.

My mom said we should take a close up picture of my first tomato for her scrapbook.

See the picture below?

tomatoes-2.jpg

My mom said she is so proud of me for producing such a beautiful first tomato.

My mom said my tomatoes will start growing bigger and eventually turn bright red!

I asked my mom why my tomatoes will turn red. She said because our house is kept at the perfect temperature for me to produce something called lycopene, carotene, and ethylene. Lycopene, carotene, and ethylene make my tomatoes turn red and taste delicious!

My mom and dad are so smart! They know everything about raising my brothers and sisters and I.

Sorry everyone! I'd love to tell you more about my tomatoes but my dad needs to talk to me.

He said now that I'm a teenager, he needs to tell me about the birds and the bees. I told him I know what birds and bees are. For some reason he laughed and said we still need to talk.

See you all next week!

Tommy.
