Day 119 - People Love My Tomatoes!

Hi everyone. It's me Tommy!

It's been a great week here at Beylik Family Farms. My brothers and sisters and I are all producing our first ripe tomatoes and people everywhere are enjoying them in their favorite recipes.

My Dad Scott said we never know where our tomatoes will be enjoyed. They may be enjoyed in someone's homemade salad or pizza, or they may be enjoyed at a restaurant in a meal prepared by a professional chef.

Because my mom Laura and dad Scott love me so much, they wanted me to know who enjoyed my first tomatoes.

So guess what they did for me!

See the picture below?

They hand-delivered my first tomatoes to Sly's Restaurant https://www.slysonline.com, one of the best restaurants in Carpinteria!

The owner of Sly's Restaurant is Mr. James Sly. Mr. Sly is a professional chef and only serves the highest quality ingredients to his customers. Chef Sly serves Beylik Family Farms tomatoes exclusively at his restaurant.

I asked my mom Laura what recipe Mr. Sly made with my first tomatoes and she showed me the pictures she took!

That's Chef Sly! He decided to serve my first tomatoes on one of his world famous hamburgers.

Take a look at the picture below!

Wow! Don't my first tomatoes look delicious! Chef Sly sure does think so. He describes Beylik Family Farms tomatoes as, "Beautiful and always delicious!"

It makes me so happy as a tomato plant to see people like Chef Sly enjoying my tomatoes.

Hey! I just thought of something.

If you live in southern California, you can enjoy my tomatoes too!

They're available at any of the farmers markets listed at this link https://www.beylikfarms.com/where-to-buy.

Hey! I just thought of something else!

You can send me pictures of how you enjoy my tomatoes!

I'd love to know what recipes you use my tomatoes in and if you love my tomatoes as much as Chef Sly and his customers.

If you'd like to send me pictures, please email me using the website's contact form at this link https://www.beylikfarms.com/contact.

Day 112 - My First Ripe Tomatoes!

Hi everyone. It's me Tommy!

My dad Scott said something special was going to happen this week and it sure did!

My first tomatoes are ripe and ready for harvest!

Don't they look Amazing!

My mom Laura and dad Scott had been keeping a close eye on me all week waiting for the perfect time to harvest my first tomatoes. They kept walking by and walking by and walking by...

And then it happened.

My dad bent down, whispered into my ear, "Tommy, It's time!"

I was so excited. All of my brothers and sisters gathered around and watched as my dad picked my first tomato!

Check out the picture below...

That's my dad harvesting my first tomato!

It makes me so happy to fulfill my purpose in life to give the gift of delicious tomatoes to the world!

And growing up here at Beylik Family Farms in Fillmore allows me to fulfill that purpose like no other tomato plant.

All the love and care I receive here on the farm, combined with my dad's decades of experience growing tomatoes, makes my tomatoes some of the best in the world.

Take a look at the picture below.

I'm so proud of my brother and sisters and I. I think we're a great looking family.

My dad says next week my ripe tomatoes are going somewhere special.

I'll let you all know where my first tomatoes go in next week's blog post.

See you all next week!
Tommy.

Day 105 - Look At All My Tomatoes!

Hi everyone. It's me Tommy!

It's been a great week here at Beylik Family Farms. My brothers and sisters and I are all changing color so fast. Take a look at the picture below.

It's amazing how fast we're all turning red!

I was talking to my mom Laura and dad Scott and they suggested I show you all my sets. I said, "What are my sets?"

My dad said, "Sets are what we call clusters of tomatoes along your stem. Right now you have 7 sets. Let's take a picture of each set."

OK everyone. Are you ready to see them? Here we go. Starting from my bottom set to my top...

Above is Set #1. It's the lowest on my stem and the most mature. Don't they look delicious!

set-2.jpg

This is Set #2. It has 3 tomatoes and will be the next to start turning red.

set-3.jpg

This is Set #3. It only has 2 tomatoes; but look at how big they are already! It won't be long before they start turning red also.

set-4.jpg

This is Set #4. It has 5 tomatoes! I can't wait to see them all start changing color. It's going to be so beautiful!

This is Set #5. I only has 3 tomatoes; but look at how big they are already!

This is Set #6. It also has 3 tomatoes; but look at how small one of them is. My mom says It looks cute.

set-7.jpg

This is Set #7. It's my newest set and it's way up high on my stem. And it's flowering!

I hope you've all enjoyed seeing my sets. My dad says next week is going to be a special week here on the farm so you won't want to miss next week's blog post.

I can't wait to share what happens!

See you all next week!
Tommy.

Day 98 - I'm Turning Red!

Hi everyone. It's me Tommy!

The most exciting thing that's ever happened to me started happening this week.

My brothers and sisters and I started turning red!

Can you believe it!

Take a look at the picture below.

Yep! That's me! My entire life I've been green. Green stem, green leaves, green tomatoes, I think I even dream in green!

One day I woke up, looked down, and my tomatoes were turning orange! I was so frightened I called out for my mom and dad and they both came running just as fast as they could.

Instead of asking me what was wrong, they both just smiled and said, "Congratulations Tommy! Your color broke!"

I told my parents that didn't sound good but they assured me it's perfectly normal. A color break is just a common term for my tomatoes turning from green to the slightest orange color. My tomatoes will continue to turn brighter and brighter orange, and eventually turn a bright beautiful red!

I asked my dad why my tomatoes turn red and he said it's because of something I produce naturally inside my body called ethylene. When my tomatoes reach a mature green stage, my body naturally begins to produce ethylene. Ethylene works with the lycopene and carotene already inside my body to turn my tomatoes red. He said it's called the ripening process.

Wow! My dad Scott is the smartest farmer in the world, maybe the universe! I'm so lucky to have such great parents like my dad Scott and mom Laura. I wish every tomato plant in the world could be so lucky!

This is such a magical time for my brothers and sisters and I. It's so beautiful here on the farm with everyone changing different shades of green, orange and red. See the picture below?

That's just part of the beautiful view I get to see everyday. It's the view of my brothers and sisters right across from me. Don't they look beautiful!

Check out the picture below!

red-brother.jpg

Look at how fast one of my brother's tomatoes ripened! I asked my dad why it ripened so much faster than the tomatoes right next to it and he said it's just nature taking its course. Some tomatoes turn red fast, while others take more time. It's all perfectly natural and healthy.

OK everyone! I'm going to go now so I can stand in the sun for a while. I've got to see if I can catch up to my brother and grow a few bright red tomatoes of my own!

I bet I can beat him.

See you all next week!
Tommy.

Day 91 - It's My Mom!

Hi everyone. It's me Tommy!

I have a special surprise for you this week!

My mom Laura is usually camera shy; but this week my dad Scott talked her into letting him take her picture.

mom.jpg

Look everyone! It's a picture of me and my mom! Don't we look great together!

My mom takes such great care of my brothers and sisters and I here on the farm. She's always making sure we have plenty to eat, that we're not too warm or too cold, and most of all, she's always telling us how much she loves us. I've got the best mom in the world!

After dad took the picture of me and mom, he asked me what I learned in school that day.

I told him I learned about the importance of eating a healthy diet and getting plenty of exercise.

Then I asked, "I know I get plenty of exercise because my brothers and sister and I are always playing games like tag, baseball, and Frisbee; but do I have a healthy diet?"

My dad smiled and said, "Yes Tommy. Your diet is healthy and designed just for you, a Big Beef tomato plant."

Take a look at the picture below.

dripper.jpg

It's a picture of me and my dripper. My dad said every day I eat 5.5 cups of a mixture of nutrients from my dripper that includes 16 drops of nitrogen, 1 drop of phosphorous, 8 drops of potassium, 6 drops of calcium, 2.5 drops of magnesium, and 2 drops of sulfur.

Wow! I'm getting nutrients I've never even heard of!

My diet must be working. Take a look at the picture below.

fruit.jpg

Aren't those the best looking tomatoes you've ever seen!

My dad is so smart. He knows everything about raising healthy tomato plants. I'm so lucky to be growing up here at Beylik Family Farms!

Now that I know I'm eating a healthy diet, I'm going to make sure I'm getting plenty of exercise.

I'm going to go ask my dad if wants to play catch. I'm also going to ask for a new glove. My tomatoes are getting so big, they barely fit inside!

See you all next week!
Tommy.
